sequoiadendron giganteum vida magical mistery sequoiadendron giganteum vida magical mistery R ref : 11755 This variety is still rare on the market and is a lemon yellow improvement of the standard variety. It has a straight trunk and a very thick bark, cracked and clear brown colored. The main branches take a plunging slanting direction, giving its crown a very regular conical form. The leaves are like scales, spear-shaped, and their dimensions vary between 2 and 4 cm. The evergreen leaves present lemon yellow tones with glaucous reflections and red/brown colored cones. This resinous tree is quite resistant to cold in the tempered climate of France, Belgium, and Swiss. It likes light, the best is full sun exposure, or at least 6 hours a day of direct sunlight and a good atmospheric moist. It is sensitive to wind. It barely vegetates in the very hard soils. It is hard to multiply. Indeed, the "carrot" form of the Sequoiadendron roots system makes the transplantation of this tree quite difficult. The best is to plant it when it is very young. Its red/brown trunk stands out in any landscape. Adult height: about 300-350 cm. Adult width : 60-90 cm. Medium rate growth (30/40 cm per year). The giant sequoia grows in acid, clay, moist, sandy, and well-drained soils. This variety grows in a pyramidal form when it is young, and then takes a more columnar form over the years. Delivered in a 5-liter pot. Diameter : 22 cm. Approximate height of the plant on delivery: 80-100 cm. On a side note : the sequoiadendron giganteum lives in wildlife in California on the pccodental Sierra nevada valleys until 2000 meters of altitude. It reaches, in its country, 100 meter in height. In our countries, there only are about 60 meters hight subjects. One of the pictures shows you an adult subject at the nursery of the nurseryman who obtained this variety. 48,00 out of stock
SWEET LORRAINE SWEET LORRAINE N ref : 12005 "Deeply cut, glossy purplish-violet leaves that turn orange-brown in autumn. Fast-growing. This variety is often used to create layered specimens in Japanese gardens. In a previous blog post, I wrote that I didn't know the parent of the Japanese maple 'Sweet Lorraine', but when we repotted the original seedling, we discovered the name Acer palmatum 'Seedling from Amber Ghost' (1999) on a plastic label that had slipped out of view to the bottom of the pot. Nowadays, we identify these seedlings as 'EX Amber Ghost', and we use a different colored label in hopes that the team understands that, although they all look different, the common trait is that they are not all 'Amber Ghost' ? just as human siblings are not the same people as their mother. Acer palmatum 'Sweet Lorraine' is a delicate laceleaf maple. New growth is reddish, then later (around mid-June), it transitions to a light green. There are other somewhat similar non-Buchholz cultivars, such as 'Baldsmith' and 'Van den Akker' ? both terrible names ? but 'Sweet Lorraine' is more dwarf-like, at least under our growing conditions. The original was sold a few years ago in a 20-gallon pot, having grown in the greenhouse to 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide in 15 years. It was no longer producing quality grafting scions, not even mediocre ones, so I replaced it with younger scions on vigorous green rootstocks. Do I regret letting go of the original Buchholz introduction? Yes, always. But employees want higher wages, not sweet memories. 'Sweet Lorraine' ? what a name. For some reason, it came to me from the popular song by Cliff Burwell (music) and Mitchell Parish (lyrics), published in 1928. Do yourself a favor and look up Nat King Cole ? Sweet Lorraine for a lovely rendition ? or, for rock fans, try Country Joe's version. Oh darling ? Sweet Lorraine!"* 38,00 starting at out of stock
