sequoiadendron giganteum vida magical mistery ref : 11755 This variety is still rare on the market and is a lemon yellow improvement of the standard variety. It has a straight trunk and a very thick bark, cracked and clear brown colored. The main branches take a plunging slanting direction, giving its crown a very regular conical form. The leaves are like scales, spear-shaped, and their dimensions vary between 2 and 4 cm. The evergreen leaves present lemon yellow tones with glaucous reflections and red/brown colored cones. This resinous tree is quite resistant to cold in the tempered climate of France, Belgium, and Swiss. It likes light, the best is full sun exposure, or at least 6 hours a day of direct sunlight and a good atmospheric moist. It is sensitive to wind. It barely vegetates in the very hard soils. It is hard to multiply. Indeed, the "carrot" form of the Sequoiadendron roots system makes the transplantation of this tree quite difficult. The best is to plant it when it is very young. Its red/brown trunk stands out in any landscape. Adult height: about 300-350 cm. Adult width : 60-90 cm. Medium rate growth (30/40 cm per year). The giant sequoia grows in acid, clay, moist, sandy, and well-drained soils. This variety grows in a pyramidal form when it is young, and then takes a more columnar form over the years. SIEBOLDIANUM SEKI NO KEGON ref : 11936 Acer sieboldianum 'Seki-no-kegon' Discovered in 1970 in Fukushima Prefecture as a natural seedling of a weeping Acer sieboldianum, 'Seki-no-kegon' is a rare and remarkable cultivar. The original tree, still growing in Fukushima, reached only about 3 meters in height after more than thirty years, reflecting its moderate vigor. The name honors both its discoverer, Mr. Kazou Seki, and the famous Kegon-no-taki waterfall near the city of Kanuma, giving rise to the full name 'Seki-no-kegon'. Unlike most weeping Japanese maples, which typically bear finely dissected leaves, this cultivar develops large, broad foliage that creates a dense and graceful silhouette. In autumn, the leaves change from deep purplish-red to a brilliant, vivid red before falling. Young plants often show a semi-weeping habit, which becomes more pronounced with age, enhancing its cascading form. Grafted onto Acer sieboldianum, it offers excellent hardiness and can be cultivated in cold climates, tolerating conditions down to USDA zone 4, or slightly lower.
